ST CHRISTOPHER’S PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL

Summary of meeting on 14th September 2026

Members agreed to extend the terms of office of current co-opted members of the PPC by one year (on a “one-off” basis) to avoid these terms of office ending at the same time as the terms of the chair and deputy chair.  In future all PPC terms of office will be of 3 years duration. Members also agreed that from 2027 PPC meetings will be held 5 times per years, rather than the current 4 per year.  The frequency of parish finance committee will similarly increase from 4 to 5 meetings per year.

The parish Winter Fair on 21st November were discussed.  The planning meeting had been well attended and plans were progressing.  It was agreed that the proceeds from the Fair should be split 50:50 between parish funds and a charity.  It was agreed that the charity should be Sutton Food Bank which is experiencing substantially increased demand.  Plans were also discussed for the Advent Carol Service (date tbc) and the Christian Unity Week Service on Tuesday 19th January which well again be hosted at Saint Christopher’s.  There was also an update on parish music.

Nick provided an update on parish finances including the impact to date of the newly installed credit/debit card readers.  He noted some of the upcoming expenditure including replacement of the door to the parish hall and the pruning of trees on the church site and at the presbytery.  Delays with the delivery of a set of stackable upholstered chairs for use in both the church and the hall were also discussed.

Other topics discussed included safeguarding, a possible evangelisation event similar to one attended by several PPC members elsewhere in the deanery, replacement of the carpet on the sanctuary of the church, and the positioning of the memorial book to a more suitable position within the church.

At the end of the meeting Martin, on completion of his term as PPC chair handed over to Jane, Johanna and Marion who will serve as co-chairs for 12 months, before a new PPC chair and deputy are elected in September 2027.
