ST CHRISTOPHER’S PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL

Summary of Hospitality and Social open discussion on 28th June 2025

This brainstorming discussion on the development of parish Hospitality and Social Activities was open to all parishioners, with those unable to attend encouraged to send ideas in advance of the meeting.

The discussion generated suggestions for a variety of parish social event, including:

·         Arts events, including exhibitions of art works or photographs by our parishioners, including events specifically for children

·         Social events with food, such as an international food night, or a cheese and wine evening

·         Talks on secular topics of interest such as establishing a Lasting Power of Attorney, or from a young person on an interesting travelling experience

·         Guided walks around the area, or walks between parishes in the deanery

There was specific discussion of the possibility of more frequent events promoting Christian Unity, such as a walk and visits to the various churches in Cheam, or hosting a performance by the Quaker Steel band

There was also some discussion of spiritual events which would contribute to building the parish community, including groups for meditation and bible study, days of retreat/reflection, and talks and other opportunities for adult exploration of our faith.

Other suggestions included moving parish quiz nights to Saturday evening to increase attendance, making better use of external notice boards to publicise parish activities including the Cheam Village notice board, occasionally providing occasional coffee/tea after the Saturday 6pm and Sunday 12 noon masses, and providing a “suggestions box” inside the door of the hall, to encourage everyone to contribute their ideas

Actions were placed to explore some of these suggestions immediately, and others will be explored further in coming months.
